ODYSSEY® battery is set to showcase its groundbreaking AGM DINC size battery with a built-in monitoring system at Automechanika in Frankfurt (13 – 17 September).
A world first, the new AGM (Absorbed Glass Mat) TPPL (Thin Plate Pure Lead) DINC commercial vehicle battery is one of five pioneering products to be shortlisted as a finalist in the Parts and Technology Solutions category in the Automechanika Innovation Awards.
An innovation in its own right, the next generation ODYSSEY® DINC battery with Connect™ battery monitoring system from EnerSys® is the first AGM TPPL commercial vehicle battery with Bluetooth® connectivity, a built-in sensor and a dedicated app to allow fleet operators easy access to real-time information on the batteries in their vehicles.
Providing a wealth of key data, the smart technology in the Connect™ battery monitoring system allows fleet managers to see a range of valuable information at a glance, including:
- Voltage measurement
- Temperature measurement
- Recording of the battery’s history
- Monitoring of the battery’s state of health
- Advance warning and safeguard notifications
The patented ‘ACE’ (Advanced Connected Energy) sensor technology built into the Connect™ battery monitoring system provides advance warning and safeguard notifications using Bluetooth® connectivity to alert operators to any potential issues, which can be dealt with before costly problems arise.
Speaking on the ODYSSEY® DINC battery with Connect™ battery monitoring system, Peter ‘t Hart, Director of Transportation for EMEA & APAC at EnerSys, said: “The Connect™ battery monitoring system could be a real game-changer for commercial fleet operators and we’re extremely proud to see our pioneering technology in the running for such a high-profile industry award.”
“Operators are often left in the dark when it comes to accessing detailed information about the state of the batteries in their vehicles, which can be frustrating since batteries play such a vital role in fleet efficiency. The new ODYSSEY® DINC battery with Connect™ battery monitoring system has been designed to remove that uncertainty and for the first-time operators have a wealth of valuable data at their fingertips.
“It’s fantastic to see the ODYSSEY® DINC battery with Connect™ battery monitoring system highlighted among the automotive industry’s most pioneering products and we’re looking forward to the awards ceremony at Automechanika.”
The Automechanika Innovation Awards received more than 130 entries this year and the ODYSSEY® DINC battery with Connect™ battery monitoring system is among 35 products to have been announced as finalists after being rated outstanding by the expert judging panel.
Award entries will be judged by a 14-strong panel, including industry experts from the UK, the USA, South Africa, Turkey and Australia, and the winners will be announced during an awards ceremony at Automechanika on 13 September.
The ODYSSEY® DINC battery with Connect™ battery monitoring system (ODP-ACEDINC) is available now, with this technology already being adopted by a leading OEM with over 100,000 batteries in use.
Providing twice the power and three times the life of conventional batteries, ODYSSEY® batteries are optimised to meet the growing demands placed on commercial vehicle batteries. A high-performance alternative, the dual-purpose ODYSSEY® battery provides exceptional cranking power to start the engine time and again, whilst giving superb deep cycle capacity to keep auxiliary loads such as heating, lighting and power sockets running, even in the most extreme conditions.
